5 levels of threat

The Threat to Aviation.

  • Since 29th August 2014 the Threat level in the UK has been assessed as Severe.
  • There are 5 levels of Threat:
    • Low – an attack is unlikely.
    • Moderate – an attack is possible, but not likely.
    • Substantial – an attack is a strong possibility.
    • Severe – an attack is highly likely.
    • Critical – an attack is expected imminently.
  • Threat levels do not have an expiry date, they are reviewed regularly to ensure that they remain current.
  • The UK Governments counter terrorism strategy aims to reduce the risk from international terrorism.
  • The Government can never guarantee that attacks will never take place, but tries to reduce the risk as much as possible.
  • Assessments of the level and nature of the Threat from international terrorism are made by the Joint Terrorism Analysis Centre (JTAC).
