The aviation ground supervisor’s course is for candidates involved in aviation security supervisory and is designed to inform delegates of the standards required of their staff, the best ways in achieving and maintaining these standards and the correct procedural requirements.

All candidates must have completed the Aviation ground security officer course and hold the relevant certificate.

The aviation cargo security training has 7 levels. Each Level is targeted to employees level of responsibility and access to cargo.

Cargo Aviation Security Principles (CASP)

Persons requiring general security awareness, including drivers, need training drawn from the relevant part of modules 1-6.

Course content:

• General Awareness
• Organisation of aviation security
• Principles of air cargo security
• Responding to suspicious circumstances
• Reacting to Threat Warnings

Full Course Duration 1 to 1 ½ days depending on requirements

Assessment: Written Test

Qualification: Cargo Certificate detailing modules delivered

Cargo Aircraft Protection (CAP)

Persons implementing aircraft protection or aircraft search need training drawn from the relevant parts of modules 1-10.

Course contents as level CASP plus:

• Access control, cargo protection and patrolling controlled areas
• Searching, checking and controlling access to aircraft
• Recognition of firearms and explosives

Full Course Duration 1 day

Assessment: Written Test

Qualification: Cargo Certificate detailing modules delivered

Cargo Operative (CO)

Persons implementing security controls for air cargo or mail need training drawn from the relevant parts of modules 1-10 (4)

Course content as Level CAP plus:

• Methods of concealment
• Methods of making cargo known

Full Course Duration 2 days

Assessment: Written Test

Qualification: Cargo Certificate detailing modules delivered

Cargo Operative Screening (COS)

Persons implementing screening of air cargo or mail need training drawn from the relevant parts of modules 1-19.

Course content as CO plus:

• Using cargo x-ray equipment. (Only available at clients premises)
• Physical Examination

Full Course Duration: 2 days without x-ray practical / 3 days with x-ray practical

Assessment: Written Test

Qualification: Cargo Certificate detailing modules delivered

Cargo Supervisor (CS)

Supervisors need training draw from the relevant parts of modules 1-20.

The course content as COS plus:

• Security supervisor

Full Course Duration: 2 days without x-ray practical / 3 days with x-ray practical

Assessment: Written Test

Qualification: Cargo Certificate detailing modules delivered

Course Fee: On Application

Cargo Manager (CM)

Managers need training drawn from the relevant parts of modules 1-21. Note that if a manager is also involved in operative or supervisor activities they will require full training as for an operative or supervisor as well.

Course content as CS plus:

• Security manager.

Full Course Duration: 3 days without x-ray practical / 4 days with x-ray practical

Assessment: Written Test

The General Security Awareness Training Course is UK DfT approved and provides a solid foundation for any person with unescorted access to the Restricted Zone (RZ) at an airport. The course is self-paced and does not require costly instructors and classroom facilities. In addition, each student can complete the training during break hours or on their own time. This minimizes staff disruption and decreases training costs. All student records are stored electronically and each student will receive an approved certificate of completion to present at the pass office during the application process.

Course Topics

The Threat to Aviation – Teaches what the meaning of “threat” is and its effect on security standards. The student will learn about the types of organisations that may pose a threat, types of threats to aviation, possible targets, and what measures are in place to mitigate the threat.

Objectives and Organisations of Aviation Authority – Teaches the student about the international, national, and local organisation of aviation security. The student will learn about the overall objective of aviation security, principles based on international agreements, DfT’s role in aviation security, and the local organisation of his airport.

Restricted Zone Protection and Access Control – Teaches how effective control of access to the Restricted Zone is achieved. The student will learn about the principles of access control, what to do if you find an incorrect pass, understanding screening, and searching of people and baggage.

Prohibited Articles – Teaches the student what prohibited articles are and how to respond if they suspect a prohibited article has been brought into the RZ.

The Student’s Roles in Aviation Security – Teaches how to deal with an unattended item and respond to suspicious behaviour in an airport. Each student will learn about the process for dealing with suspicious and unattended items, the process for reporting suspicious behaviour, and the process for dealing with threats against an aircraft or airport.
